American Fact of the Day!
On August 5, 1914, the world's very first electric traffic light system was installed on the corner of East 105th Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. Designed by the American Traffic Signal Company, the system consisted of four pairs of red and green lights, along with a high-pitched buzzer that sounded as an extra warning whenever the lights were about to switch colors! It also gave local police and fire stations direct control over the signal so they could manually change it in case of an emergency.
